SCOTUS to Hear Case Addressing the Heart of Roe v Wade
Al Ritter
After closed door conferences for months the Supreme
Court Justices have agreed to hear a Mississippi case that cuts to the core of
the landmark 1973 ruling on Roe v. Wade.
Many abortion cases are in wait on the Supreme Court’s
doorstep, but this one has come forward first. The issue at hand is the newly
passed law in Mississippi that denies any abortion after the 15 week period,
where a fetus could live on its own.
There were three questions asked of the court in this
case, only the above was accepted. The other two questions that were denied
were; does the abortion clinic have legal standing to argue on the patient’s
behalf, and whether the courts should scrutinize whether an abortion
restriction has any health and safety benefits.
Other cases are sure to surface soon including many
states now requiring that aborted fetuses be either buried or cremated to keep
abortion providers from selling fetus parts which was already illegal but never
the less was being done on an underground basis.
