Squeegee Kids Escalate Violence in Baltimore City

For nearly 40 years the Baltimore City Council and the
Mayor’s Office have been playing cat and mouse with a group called the squeegee
kids. For those of you that don’t live around Maryland, you might not understand
what those words mean.
The squeegee kids are a group of Black teenagers that
target particular intersections and panhandle for money by cleaning windshields
on cars waiting at the stop light. Lately things have been getting out of hand
as a 15 year old squeegee kid shot and killed a motorist that didn’t want his
windshield cleaned. The motorist exited his car with a bat and the kid shot and
killed him.
Once again the
City Council and Mayor’s Office are treating this as if the kids are the
victims. This group are most certainly unemployed and unskilled in anything
other than intimidation. They basically inhabit multiple corners and attempt to
shake down passing motorists for cash. Think Mafia and shake down extortion attempts
on local businesses, there isn’t much difference.
Why don’t they make a law prohibiting this behavior
you ask? Actually there is a law but the City Council is afraid to enforce it
because they feel that doing so is a violation of the First Amendment! I’m not
sure how extortion challenges free speech, but that’s their claim.
In a recent City Council meeting to address this
problem random ideas were floated once again about getting them job training
etc. The entire meeting surrounded them as being just poor Black kids that need
a helping hand.

I’ve watched several newscasts about this latest
killing and not once have I heard anyone question why a 15 yr old was carrying
a handgun in the first place. He later claimed he thought the job he was doing
was “dangerous,” and that’s why he was carrying.
For the past few years Marilyn Mosby has been the
Baltimore City State’s Attorney, and between she and her husband that sits on
the City Council, not much has been done to curb this behavior. Thankfully she
has been unseated in the primary this year amidst charges of corruption and
hopefully charges against this kid will gain some traction.
In Maryland using a handgun in the commission of a felony
carries a mandatory 5 year sentence which is almost always pleaded down to
nothing by the State’s Attorney’s office.
Brandon Scott the Baltimore Mayor has no clue what to
do about this problem, so far they all see it as a hands off situation.
It’s time that Baltimore starts cracking down on crime
and this would certainly be a good place to start!

They are not going to crack down on crime I don’t know why but they just aren’t
There is nothing in Baltimore that i want to see anymore....the city is dead to me!
